Rubber is a very popular material. It's mostly used in gaskets, tyres, erasers, etc. Due to the water-repellent attribute of rubber, almost any object with gaskets has rubber in it. The French word is caoutchouc and the German word is Gummi.

About the material

Rubber is naturally matt; (polish is needed to make it shine as latex) and it also has the special attribute of being very stretchable.

Rubber is a material made from latex - depending on the use that rubber is needed for, different additives (toxic and/or non-toxic) are mixed with the "natural rubber". Due to its molecular structure, rubber products can make rubber-dust. That is also what people with a latex allergy can react to; they breathe in the dust and their immune system reacts to it (some also react to post-production-leftovers).
