Chlorination
Chlorination is a process for treating latex clothing with a source of chlorine (such as chlorine bleach) to change the chemistry of the surface layer. This treatment should reduce the stickiness and allow the garment to be put on easily without the use of talcum powder or other lubricant. Great care should be taken when attempting to chlorinate anything, and a known method should be used, to avoid ruining the rubber. Chlorine is poisonous, so appropriate precautions are needed; the room should be well ventilated.
Chlorinating new latex makes it shinier; this may not work with older material.
Potential side effects from chlorination include slight discoloration and it makes the garment more difficult to repair. It also removes the latex smell and reduces the squeakiness of the garment, which may or may not be considered advantages.
Some manufacturers automatically chlorinate all their garments.
