Dungeon (BDSM)

A dungeon is a space, a room, dedicated to practising BDSM sessions. Most often, a dungeon is not to be left during the play scene and contains handcuffs, hooks and other bondage equipment for limiting the bottom's movement. Equipment for dominating the bottom are also common items in a dungeon.

Private dungeons
Some with rooms to spare convert a room in their house into a dungeon. In apartment buildings this might not be as easy as in a (semi)detached house with their own basement or attic.
If dedicating a whole room only for use as a dungeon is not feasible, one can try to have hidden and semi-permanent installations; say, a fastening hook under a carpet or a locked cabinet with cuffs on the inside of the door for affixing to the bottom during play. With such cabinets and other self designed devices one must use big safety margins to ensure the bottoms safety - a falling cabinet can kill people.

Rent dungeons
In countries where not deemed inappropriate or illegal, some (especially professional dominatrices) rent out their dungeons on a hourly or daily price. As professionals they have invested more than a private person might wish to spend, in the dungeon equipment such as crosses, cages and the like. Good and sturdy bondage equipment is safer, too, as it should be less prone to break unintentionally.
Other toys are often not available, mainly for hygiene reason, but must be brought along.
As professionals the renters are mostly discreet and the privacy of the rentees is not an issue, except for the renting couples' own concerns if applicable.
