Kapital Kink
Kapital Kink is an annual kinky event, the biggest of its kind in Ottawa. The last event was on 21st February 2015; check the website for updates. [The website is currently suspended.]
The event
The fetish ball has traditionally been the best attended kinky party of the year in Ottawa, with crowds varying between 250 and 400. The crowd is a mixture of the BDSM community, local goth crowd and the daring, along with visitors from Montreal and Toronto. There is a dress code, and attendees are encouraged to dress fetish and wear latex clothing.
Performers at the 2010 ball include special guest performer Jean Bardot, Bilingual MC's The Richard and Mimi Cherry, Kink Engineering, Ego Assassin and others. The 2010 edition will feature a fashion show on the 11th. The event also includes a series of workshops on various topics such as bondage, medical play and fireplay. In 2009 there was a workshop on latex fetishism, which included hands-on participation.
It should be noted that for historical/cultural reasons, cameras at Ottawa events are strictly regulated (ie if you aren't the official photographer, you aren't allowed) due to the privacy concerns of many.
History
The event started in 2004 with the Ottawa Fetish and Fantasy Fair, which was a resounding success. From 2005 to 2007, the event was as a ball only, held at the Embassy West Hotel. In 2008, new people joined the organizing team, and the event was moved to the Capital Music Hall, creating a much more party atmosphere. In 2009, the event was extended into a weekend long affair and renamed. Some years, a shining station has been available for those wearing latex. The event is sponsored by a number of groups and stores.
