Leg spreader
In their simplest form, leg spreaders or spreader bars are rods with straps at both ends to hold the legs apart. The straps are usually fixed around the ankles, though they can also be fixed around the knees. This allows greater access to the wearer's genitals, backside and legs.
Metal and wood are common materials for the rod part and the straps are often made of leather, rubber, neoprene or other sturdy fabric but sometimes also metal is used.
The rod may have attachment points for additional equipment, such as a chain attached to a collar. If the chain is short, the wearer is forced to bend over.
The spreader bar can be telescoping so that its length can be adjusted. Telescoping bars may be less strong than other ones, and are usually more expensive.
Depending on how the straps are affixed to the bar and how far apart the legs are kept, a leg spreader often inhibits any walking.
Accessories
A spreader bar could incorporate a vertical bar that reaches up to the pelvic region; a dildo or some other arousing appliance could be fastened to its end. This will both keep the wearer's legs straight and cause tactile sensations any time movement is attempted.
