Flood of Spammers
The LatexWiki has in the last weeks had a daily visits from spam bots. I try to update the spam filter in the LocalSettings file up-to-date with the domains and keywords the spammer link to. Any suggestions on what else we can do to fight this? Maybe a CAPTCHA extension?
Have installed the "Bad Behavior" extension: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Bad_Behavior
- Wipipedia is set so that you can only edit if you have a confirmed e-mail address in your preferences. Since we did that there have been no spammers. On the downside there have been far fewer new editors because it seems to be a big barrier to people signing up.--Ropeuser 16:37, 7 March 2011 (EST)
I've just blocked eight spambots and cleaned up after them. Clearly the "Bad Behavior" extension isn't doing much good and some more drastic action is needed. Can we have a CAPTCHA for new registrants?--Catsuit 04:14, 8 March 2011 (EST)
Installed ConfirmEdit with ReCaptcha, hope that works... --3xL 13:40, 8 March 2011 (EST)
TwoFour more spambots. I wonder if it's worth blocking them or whether they will ever edit again if we don't. Obviously we should delete the articles they create.--Secondskin 03:37, 9 March 2011 (EST)
Enabled "Confirm e-mail address to edit" setting: $wgEmailConfirmToEdit = true; --3xL 04:31, 9 March 2011 (EST)
Thank you for all your hard work keeping the LatexWiki spam free! Please also send me the domains the spammers link too in a mail, so I can add them to the wgSpamRegex in our LocalSettings.php file. --3xL 07:30, 25 March 2012 (EDT)
Is there a way to get rid of all these fake users that are auto created in everyday? Maybe we should just lock-down the wiki. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks!--3xL 14:16, 18 September 2012 (EDT)
Update: Today my whole server was overloaded. The latexwiki was the reason. We need to find a solution to this matter fast.--3xL 20:13, 22 September 2012 (EDT)
Installed Extension:SimpleAntiSpam --3xL 16:10, 29 October 2012 (EDT)
Enough is enough! I have disallowed creating of new user accounts. Users who want an account can contact me via email.--3xL 04:41, 5 November 2012 (EST)
Inaccessible articles
The articles [[FticheSkin]] and [[FticheStore]] cannot be viewed. I think that this is due to the strange characters in the title, presumably due to some sort of file corruption. No doubt the characters should be replaced by "é".--Ropeuser 16:28, 16 September 2011 (EDT)
- There are two more such articles, [[Boutique Sexe Cit (St-hubert)]] and [[Boutique Sexe Cit (St-Catherine)]].--Catsuit 13:47, 25 October 2011 (EDT)
